Liv's Story
From young person to volunteer.
In 2019, Liv began working with Youth Workers in the North East of Barnsley. She engaged in a variety of detached projects with her friends, helping her gain life skills and new experiences.
Liv was inspired by her Youth Workers to help others and now Liv is now volunteering with our organisation, working with one of our core groups in Barnsley. In sessions, she reflects on her experiences as a young person, acting as a positive role model to the group. As well as supporting workshops and social action work.
Let’s hear more about her story in her own words….
I started my journey with the youth work team as a young person at around 14.
At that time, I was involved with a group of friends that regularly participated in anti-social behaviour. When we first started sessions with the youth workers it was just for something to do however as time went by, I developed more trust into them.
From the start of the sessions where I had really low self-esteem, they helped me build my confidence and taught me some really important life skills all while making it fun.
Their work sprouted my interest in working with the community and making a difference in people’s lives. Volunteering as a youth worker has really solidified my choice of becoming a social worker and continues to help me gain skills and experience for university.
